I set a goal for myself about a year ago. I want to build a knowledge base that would be close to a "proper" late 16th century noble lady. I have sewing and embroidery at a good start. My next goal was to learn an instrument. I knew I didn't want to do the drums (mainly cause it seems like everyone does), and with my asthma, I didn't want to want to do a wind instrument. That left me with strings. I have my heart set on a Lute, but with those going for about $1000 for a cheap one, I knew I had to find something different. After talking to people and reading stuff online, I learned that NOTHING plays like it, so I can't try something else to get me started. The lute plays in scales, not cords. So after thinking about trying the mandolin and the guitar, I decided to go with the guitar. One, because I love the sound of it, and have always wanted to learn it. And while it isn't completely period, it is close. It was also really easy to get one in my price rang that sounds pretty! And, its a Fender! My mom, who use to play, came with me to help me find one and was the one that said to get the one I got. It was a good pick. Sold top, 6 string.
Now just to learn those cords and build those calluses.
